Description
“SAFARI” sa·fa·ri | sə-ˈfär-ē
After getting introduced to Inuit mukluks some years back, we started to study how we could take their concepts and bring it to the future with precision craftsmanship and cutting edge technology. With this in mind, we set out to develop a new versatile boot system built around different inter-changable outer and inner boots, so that you can choose the right inner-boot with the right outer boot for your intended use, and build your footwear wardrobe around this system.
The Safari Mucks are the second boot in in the muck system, focusing on adventure travelling. Hand-sewn in suede leather and cotton canvass welted on a super-soft vibram sole. The inner boot is done in a breezy open mesh to ensure air flow. The inner boot also includes a sole in order to function as a slipper in camp, indoors or on longer flights.
The muck system now comprises two different outer-boots; The Mountain muck and the Safari Muck accompanied by three different inner-boots; summer mesh, standard mesh and wool felt for the coldest days.

I was initially in doubt whether this was a boot for me or not. Where I live it is not exactly desert climate, but a summer boot with good breathability excited me. And they were stunning to look at. So I went for it,- and was a bit disappointed as they arrived. Rather large, bulky and it was hard to get the snug fit I am used to by other shoes. If worn with thick socks they were ok, but that was not the point of summer boots, was it? So I have tried to get used to them until today a package arrived. Inner soles. These had by mistake not been shipped with the shoes. I slipped them in and all my issues were resolved. If you are looking for a “do everything boot” for the norwegian summer or for your next journey to warmer climates, this is it.

When the Safari Mucks were announced I was a bit ambivalent. On one hand their appearance was stunning, but they seemed a bit bulky and not particularly well suited for the wet climate of western-Norwegian summers. After giving it a bit of thought I went for it. When they arrived I was a bit disappointed. The build quality was good, but the fit was nowhere near as good as I had hoped for. It was better when wearing thick stockings, but that is not exactly what you want from your summer boots, is it? Today a package arrived. Insoles. Somehow my pair of mucks had not been delivered with these. As soon as I slipped them in, all my concerns resolved. The puzzle is now complete. If you want a pair of “go anywhere, do anything” boots, there are perfect.

I bought these boots based on the description and appearance for a light hiking/trekking boot. They arrived and were super comfy on first wear. I agree with the reviews that they don’t need breaking in, like a traditional hiking boot. I did a three day hike the weekend after they arrived and no blisters or issues. It was an early spring hike in the Teton Mountains and there were some minor snow crossings. I do not recommend these on snow – they’re super slippery and I had some pretty hysterical slips. I also crossed a few streams in these and they didn’t dry overnight even when I separated the boot and liner and left out in the sun. So overall, great looking and comfortable boot, I’m just not sure what the intended use is. I’ve never been on safari but would think for most it’s a lot of riding around in Land Rover Defenders where this boot would be overkill.
