In October 2018, we launched the Ilujjiniq Mountain Mucks together with 2 different inner boots a standard version and a wool felt version. The concept is that you choose the inner boot most suited for your attended use. So for the coldest winter days, you would switch to the Wool inner boots and so on….

The Ilujjiniq Mountain Mucks are only the first boot in a brand new footwear system. With the layering concept inspired by the Inuits, we are working on several different outer and inner boots to complete the system.

So if you already own the Mountain Muck, you can simply purchase the upcoming Rubber outer boot and use any of your current inner boots inside them…. same goes for the upcoming desert boot for the warmer summer hikes – just to mention a few of the styles currently on the drawing board.

Likewise, should you rather want to add to your system with more inner boots, you simply add the upcoming waterproof inner to your Muck System. This way you build your own boot system custom for your use, climate and needs.

I really enjoy the fit and comfort of these boots, as well as the unique look. I bought them to use for shorter hikes in the outdoors and like the versatility of the gaiters versus a taller heavier boot. However, there are a few issues, the velcro that is supposed to hold the inner boot tongue does not actually stay in place when walking, and in turn is abrasive enough to wear on the inner fabric of the gaiter. Granted there might be something with how the boots fit on me that is causing the velcro to not stay in place so worth noting this when you try the boots on. In my case after minimal use (less than 10km) the liner of the gaiter was worn through. The outer fabric is less likely to get a hole in it, but it is already a concern and I expect that it will need repairs at some point. It should also be mentioned that the outer tongue of the boot is not water proof so if you step in water that is above the tongue you will get wet.

probably the best boots ive ever had. next level comfort, stability and not least style. but as trond points out, the velcro on the inner boots does not stay in place. not even for a second in my case. i would like to be able to tighten and fasten the inner boot.
